Rayment said while it’s very common to see bobcats in residential neighbourhoods in Calgary, where prey such as rabbits, birds and squirrels are bountiful, it’s quite rare to see a bobcat with a trap stuck on its leg, especially for this duration of time.
“Bobcats are really prevalent within Calgary and we get a lot of calls,” he said. “They’re opportunistic hunters, so they will follow available prey at all times of the year. So that could be outdoor pets that are unattended — that’s why we recommend people keep an eye on their pets outside.”
