bocourti from conkel

he has f1's,which in my opinion will turn out to be just as spectacular.
there are plenty of bocourti that look like mine(greenterra's bocourti on this forum looks better than mine, imo),peanther (not sure if thats the right member)but he hsd a pair he sold to ken davis that was spectacular, and youtube has plenty of videos with really nice bocourti(monsterfishrescue on youtube has a monster of a beatiful one)
i think is just the fact if more folks kept them and posted pics you would see alot look like mine or even better, just not to many folks keep them,i get a pm like once a week from folks asking me what the fish is in my avatar.
as i stated before anyone is welcome to visit my fish room anytime.
believe me when i tell you it took a long time for them to get to this point
when i first got them they looked nothing close to this(i actually thouhht they were ugly)but the wait and work paid off.
i will post picks when they first arrived when i get off work in the morning.

Well, after watching the video on youtube from Monster Fish Rescue, I can understand why you like it...Monster Fish Rescue is Greenterra..lol. I thought the other fish in the video looked familiar as well. I'm very familiar with Greenterra's pics.

I totally agree with the large water change philosophy. I've been doing 50% weekly on my 125 but now the fish are getting bigger so I've upped that to 50% 2 times per week. Colors are outstanding and behavior is normal but I want to continue getting the best growth.

But back to the bocourti, they are a simply stunning species that should be much more common than they are. I'm definitely going to be picking some up either from Rapps or Conkel soon. :)

a week gone and my remaining bocourti is thickening out and changed from a stressed washed out greyish colour to a golden yellow, buddha your list of foods was a great help could you also tell me the daily amounts you put into your fish and maybe some advice on how much of which to give to my 2 incher.

To answer your question,i only feed what they eat in like a minute(they are so aggressive when eating they will eat as long as you feed them)
here is my schedule for them.
Mondays-Hikari gold pellets in the morning, freeze dried krill in the evening
tuesday-hikari gold pellets morning, romaine lettuce in the evening
wednesday-thawed frozen peas in am
thursday-hikari gold pellets in the am,bell peppers in the evening(usaually for my plecos but they love to nibble on them)
friday-hikari gold pellets am,freeze fried krill in the evening
saturday hikari gold both am an pm
sunday-no food,75%-80% water changes and gravel vac
To any one thinking of getting bocourti i say do it,the wait is worth it(i cant wait till mine spawn, saw the males tube down this morning keeping my fingers crossed)i think most folks give up on them before the color shines through(took mine well over a year and very large water changes before they started displaying the variety of colors i get from them now)
others may say different but to me the key to bocourti is the large water changes(during water changes there whole stomach and lower jaw turns dark blue)and they love swimming in current,i will catch them some times just playing in the current from my return pump,

damn, i was gonna but them but it looks like his minimum purchase amount is $150, and i'm not gonna buy that much worth of fish when i only need the one
