Anyone have any experience with this fish? Are they tough enough for Jd, GT and midas in a community? Is a 4-5" specimen worth $50?

I've never personally seen this fish but ran across one online last night. Looks like a beautiful fish but there's not a ton of info around on them. Thanks in advance!

I have a wild caught pair.
Male is 14"
Female is 11"
They are tough enough for a community tank(they tend to be rather mild unless provoked)but will put a hurting on another fish if necesary.
i feed mine a variety of things, hikari gold, hikari bio-gold,peas,earthworms,krill and their all time favorite Romiane lettuce(they also tend to be gluttons and will out eat their tank mates)
I keep mine at temp of 79-80 degrees,( i rarely check my ph) but last time i checked it was 7.2.
I do large water changes evry week (75%)and they love playing in the new water as it comes in the tank.I find that large water changes help with growth and color.
Anything else you need to know just ask.
First pics are my male, the last one is the female(before i turned on the lights when the sun is shining through my basement window)

My Boucourti is in a community tank with a GT and like Buddha said, they're mild mannered for the most part. For a while, the GT was bullying him around, especially when the food dropped in. One day the Boucourti had enough and gave him a beat down. They seem to be at a stalemate now. I do have to mention though that the Bocourti is 12" and the GT is only about 8-8.5" so it's not exactly an even playing field.

Don't pay $50 for a 4-5" one....that's a ripoff. Especially in Florida, the land of cichlids.

Wow!! You have some absolutely beautiful fish! Most of the rest of my stock are about the same size as the Bocourti I found for sale and I'd like to keep the sizes similar fir the move into the 300. $50 seemed a little steep at first, but after seeing yours it seems like a deal.

Stunning fish! Might have to pick this one up.

How long have you had yours and what's your experienced growth rate? I'm a water change fanatic so fresh water is standard for me. As is a varied diet. I feed lots of frozen and vegetables to my current stock.

Ok. I thought it might be a good deal but I can't seem to find any of size at all. Guess I'll keep looking. Funny that I live in Fl and have a hard time finding Bocourti and Festae. Jags all day long for $5 but no others. Thanks fir the advice!

$50 is reasonable to me(i paid over $100 for my pair)of course i think it was well worth it. As far as growth rate, mine just hit the 1 year 10 months and my male is huge, with heavy water changes and a good diet he was a foot in a year,so being as though u are buying yours at 4 inches already it should reach a foot pretty quick. and if yours eat like mine(WATCH OUT it might be a foot over night:ROFL:)

That's the growth rate I was hoping for! Hmm decisions decisions. So far I have a yes and a no! Guess it depends on what it's worth to me.

Exactly, some say i paid to much ,but i think it was worth every dime(i would sell or trade all my other fish except my bocourti pair and my orange cheek pleco(dont even ask what i paid for the pleco:screwy:)and they just happened to be in the same tank:ROFL:

so in the end its about what it is worth to you.

$50 isn't bad along as its from quality stock, since you live in florida I would check out gage at cichlidconnection I am sure he has some and all his are wild or F1's and honestley I don't think I seen a fish that came from him that I wouldn't want in my tank .
