Bored with the Hobby!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It happens. I think of it like this...it gives me time to recollect my thoughts to see what I want to do next. Either doing a new project (salt water, plant tank, community, etc.) or just enjoy what you have. I've been with the same fish for nearly 4 years. I've gotten some new ones here and there, but they came and gone. I just come to the realization that whatever I really like, I should just focus on them. So I don't want to say I'm bored, but the next plan will take some will power and saving, lol! So I haven't been getting anything crazy.

Yes it happens to me all the time. Every time I shut down tanks and completely get out of the hobby it always somehow finds its way back to me. This has been happening to me in the last 15 yrs lol...keeping n raising fish is in our blood forever.

I got fed up with Aros aftere 20 plus years... Was lost, without any special interest, just maintaining what I had.

And then one day, out of the blue, fell in love again with CA Cichlids, which were my first love ( the ones available at the time, such as Convicts, Meeki and O' s). It was like being born again to the hobby.

Is it just me or is the fish game boring now?

I'm down to 3 fish and I have no desire to get another.... anyone else have the Fish Blues Lol

I'm just getting back into fishkeeping. You know, like any other hobby you have to look at the time you put into it and the enjoyment you get out of it. My eyes get away from me sometimes and I start thinking about these giant tank projects, but then I think about what would go into it and what I would get out of it.

In the end I just like to watch the fish swim and be healthy. My wife gives me a hard time whenever a fish dies. That makes it harder..

When that hit, try something a completely different setup(think monster planted aquarium with large schools of fish)...

That's exactly what I tried! I switched from predator 100g tank to freshwater planted discus setup back in July. Its even worse than before! I wish I never made that switch. I still miss mrs. Piggy to this day! Mrs. Piggy was soooo sweet. Should never have let her go. I miss that catfish so much................. MISS PIGGY! COME BACK!! :cries:

wish i had the problem, I had my 500 for 3 months, fully cycled and halfway threw my stocking and fincial reasons, not because of tank. lol I started collage full time and finally set up a 75 community, man do i wish i had at least 3 more, lol

I got bored and quit for 20 yrs. Just got back into it last year. Starting to get bored again.

I quit a couple of years ago and tried the change to other species etc but ultimately sold up and even had a year away from the site.
I still have no desire to get any fish yet.

Exactly - I've got a fishroom full of fish but I ONLY keep fish that I find interesting....and my fishroom is designed for relatively easy maintenance.

The other part of the hobby that keeps things fresh is being a part of an aquarium club (mine is Capital Cichlid Association: www.capitalcichlids.org) and hanging out with fellow fishkeepers.

Matt

I get like that from time to time. I finally just scaled back and got back to basics. 40 breeder filled with tetras and red head geo grow outs. I'm in this hobby for my own pleasure, not to please or impress anyone else.
