when does my red belly piranhas start moving alitelbit? they are 2,5" and djust in a corner all day:( wery boring. only when i turn the light of they starts to swim and move around in the tank. but i want to hawe the light on.
i seen other tanks where they got piranhas that are moving around in the tank on videos.
i maybe will go back to normal fishes becouse piranhas arent moving. wery boring.

I use to have the same problem, But after about 4 month's it got used to the tank and was swimming around. I would recommend keeping your piranha. They are really cool.

Keep in mind that many animals are skittish by nature when they are young. In the wild these fish would be preyed upon by almost anything large enough to kill them. Being bold and swimming around where you can be easily seen, especially when you are young and inexperienced, will get you killed. In their natural setting they would not remain in brightly lit areas to avoid predation and in a captive setting would be very cautious when placed in a well lit environment. Red Belly Piranha are generally know to be the most skittish species of P to begin with.
Give them time to adjust to their tank, this alone can take months. By the time they have settled in, they should also be considerably larger and less afraid of predators. Keep in mind, Ps do not generally fit the stereotype which draw many people into owning these animals. I would say that RBPs are generally aggressive feeders, but not aggressive fish.

does your tank have a powerhead. p's love them. gets them in shape and makes them eat a hell of alot more aggressivly. i can garuntee if you get a power head they will be swimming everywhere!!

Piranhas are very boring. I had 6 and got rid of them because they still didn't "come around" after a year. They look cool but are complete pussies.

I keep a single red belly that is about 5". It only swims when it is chaseing food. I believe that is because there isn't enough cover so if your tank is bare, plant it. It's still fun to watch eat though so try some feeder guppies.

Piranhas are not active fish in a tank. This is how they are. If you like active fish you have chosen the wrong fish, and maybe you should have gathered info before buying them.

One other thing, if your signature is right you have 9 red bellies in a 45g tank...well I hope you are ready to move them to a large tank very soon, especially if you feed them properly. Soon they will grow, and you will be left with 4-5 fish.

piranhas are amazing fish but you have to love them for what they are. when they are comfortable they swim. mine swim all the time. but they arent the crazy killers liek you see on TV. the bigger numbers of piranhas that you have they greater the aggression
