bottom dweller that controls snails for a 10g?

Yeah, theres really not much you can do in a ten gallon.

You can't keep a clown loach in a 10g tank. They get too big. The only suitable loach for a tank that small is a khuli loach. I've kept a lot of different loaches and can assure you that the rest get too big and are too active for a planted 10g. Dojo loaches are cool, but they get big. I kept mine in a 55g tank and he grew to 5 inches. He was a big, grey tubiflex-worm eating monster. Depending on the size of your shrimp, maybe a loach isn't your best option.

If you decide to get a loach, then get two or three khuli loaches for your tank. They have sleek bodies and excell at moving through water foliage, gravel and sand. They stay small, will add some great color and activity to the tank and will probably snack on the snails and most importantly, their egg clusters.

If you don't want a loach, then maybe try an african dwarf frog or something. Maybe some kind of dwarf pleco or small algea eater. If there's excess algae that's feeding the snail population, get something that competes with the snails' food source.

Khuli Loach I like they eat snails and are small enough for a 10 gallon.

That size tank its best to pick them out.Depending on whats in there you can just smash them and let the fish that are in there eat them.

bait 'em out with a slice of squash, etc. parboiled and then anchored in the tank over night to get most of 'em, then manual picking and controlled feedings to get the rest, if it really is only 10 or 20 (doubt it)...

if you want a fish to do it, I have a queen botia in my daughters 10g (with a gourami, nothing else) and it is very good at taking care of snails when they are small. Always seem to be 3 or 4 big (nickle sized) snails in her tank, but never any small ones. Lots of small shells though :)

FWIW any little fish that eats snails will also eat your shrimp.

You options are:
(1) Take out the snails manually
(2) Leave them and see what happens
(3) Get one of the smaller fish mentioned above

I know it's not a bottom dweller, but 3 dwarf puffers would also do the job nicely. They also like snails though..

Zebra loaches( Botia Striata) will work in the set up you describe. They stay small, grow slow and will not eat adult shrimp. I keep mine(8) in a 15 gal with cherry shrimp. They will eat the young, but some still manage to reach aduldhood.

Remember that it is best to keep these loaches in schools, with hiding places.

I don't know how they are w/ shrimp.
Kuhlis will not harm the shrimps.;) I say stick with controlling feeding rations and pick every snail manually. A 10 gallons is just not a proper environment for the botias.
