Also, your tank is overstocked right now, so I wouldn't even consider any more fish.

I laughed far to hard at that lol.

+2. Your fish will absolutely be fine not eating for a couple of days. I let my fish fast for an entire week when I go on vacation. Worst thing you can do is let a non fish keeper feed your fish while you're away. RTC idea....just don't do it

+3...Either skip weekend feedings (I fast my tanks at least once a week) or tell your grandma what she needs to do or just don't do it at all. They are your pets at the end of the day I don't care who thinks they are more right lol.

DO NOT buy an rtc...just...don't. To many out there as is that can't be homed..

See the problem is even if I do hide all my food she still has her fishtanks as well so she'll just feed them anyways with her food

Then the solution is not to feed your fish for the 2 days before you leave for the weekend, and do a w/c, as soon as you can, after you get back

Yes she does put ALOT of food in her tanks and that's why all her fish are so obese and so far 2 have died from all the overfeedings

The only problem is that since I just recently acquired the devil and jag they aren't really eating so all the food just goes to waste the devil would go and grab some Hikari pellets, chew them up then spit it all out, the only things I've gotten these two to swallow are the feeder goldfish I had

Your grandmother has multiple other tanks to feed so I assume it's her house. Is that correct? If so, thank her kindly for allowing you to have the tank and helping while you're away. Fast your fish for a day or two and do a WC before leaving then do another WC when you return.

with his situation I would say MTS reproducing like crazy is a good thing -not sure about the nitrates. In my best tank my substrate pretty much IS MTS holding hands. To say I've never had a problem is an understatement. I haven't lost a fish in that overstocked tank in about 5 years now(excluding homicides) I also have a lot of plants that might compensate for nitrates IDK most of my plants are new I've had MTS for a while. My Syn is a pig and my midas is even worse I was told not to put plants or MTS in my tank and I'm glad I didn't listen. I do twice as much work with my other tanks (my JD and Carpintis shred plants and eat MTS) You still gotta do water changes though.
