Bought two rays today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow i wish rays were legal in texas

Sharp Tooth, you said I may have to add water. If that is the case, doesn't that take away from the whole purpose of doing a drip aclimatise? If I do have to add water, should I just use fresh water from the pur flow or from the tank? I'd think water from the pur flow would be better, but still want to ask. Hopefully they have enough water. I told them I'd pay a little more for more water so who knows.

Tracking number received. Is it best to do a water change right before they arrive? I just set up my drip system to acclimate them.

take the water from your tank, the poiint of accumulating the ray would be toward the new tank, as for taking water out, as you put new water in, it detoxifies your ammonia when u remove the water. May i ask who u got them from... im guessing tfd, if thats the case get some anchor away now.... thier fish always come in with fish lice

I got it from dragon22 on aquabid.com. I understand the whole idea of accumulating the ray with the fish tank water, what I don't understand is if the water is low in bag that the ray(s) are in why would I add more water in the bag with water from the fish tank and then start the drip. Wouldn't adding more water in be enough or not a good idea to begin with since it'd be putting a lot of water from the tank in instantly? I'm assuming there will be enough water, i just want to be fully prepared and be able to start right away and get them out of the bag as soon as I can instead of having to ask questions delaying the accumulation.

Depending on how much water is in the bag and how long they have been in the bag you may be better off just putting them straight in the tank due to the fact there could be high levels of ammonia in the bag. If your just a short drive from the pet store take the time to acclimate your rays. If you are picking up from the airport the acclimation process shouldn't take over 10 minutes in which time I would have cycled a 1/3 of the water out 3-4 times. We did a big thread awhile ago on his and it explained in more depth why one way was better over another in certain circumstances.

Fedex is dropping them off by 10:30 tomorrow morning. Do you happen to have the link? I'd be very interested in reading it tonight.

lol Okay I can't remember the thread but do an advanced search using acclimate as the key word and in the stingray section. Only 40 posts so should give you some good info.

Thanks Sky, that's what I've been looking through waiting for a response. :) I'm sure everything will be fine and I'm just overly excited and paranoid.
