has anyone on here tried it? ive always had a knack for archery, but living where i do, it was never fueled by any more practice or such, and i still dont have my own bow. but bow fishing just looks like it would be alot of fun, as a mix of the two mediums that i like to do, archery and fishing of course. any thoughts or experiences?

It's a great hobby. Since you live in N ILL there are several bow fishing clubs in your area. Look up the message board chicagolandfishing.com. They have a section just for bow fishing.

ive been wanting to try for so long but i just havent gotten around to it. i dont even know how to start or where to go lol. but ive always thought it would be so fun

more in the rock river/kishwaukee river area. but some of this stuff it sounds like i would need a bit of practice for, such as its listed in the state regulations, shooting silver carp in mid-air, and most of the fish only appear for roughly 1-2 seconds, and thats your shot. but i know some carp like to sit on the surface of the water for a long time around here, but that area is catch-and-release only. but i would want to fish for bullheads or something like that, at least something i could eat afterwards.

yep i bowfish and love it kill off them carp
do you eat the carp you catch?

its either in illinois or minnesota, where the bowfishing limit is similar to spear fishing, but the limit on their bullheads was 100 per person. and i know a few spots where if you were to fire an arrow, you might get two in one shot. and they r delicious to eat.

the grass carp and common carp fishing is normal, but most places the silver carp you have to fire while theyre in midair, which isnt a problem to get the boat set to the right speed to get them to jump, but my issue would be the midair moving target shot. would have to practice more, but its at a very short range, so it might be easier than i anticipate.

saw some nice youtube videos of ppl in texas bowfishing for alligator gar, and they would both fire at the gar at the same time, through the head and through the body of the gar. looks like a nice quick catch of a lot of food on a fish.

no i use em for fertalizer and coon bait im in texas
id be goin after some gar then! you could get some real sized filets off of the gators!

i see many ppl fishing with longbows and recurves, and you can get many used compound bows for around the same price, but i also see some kits for compound bows that are under 400 dollars. i am moving south soon, and i wonder if the fishing would be more prosperous in that area. (southern illinois/carbondale area)

not much on them eather my bow and stuff forit was like 250$ for it all and get a bow that shoot atleast 50 for the gator gar
