snap-back sounds like it could be almost life-threatening, but you said you can avoid it to a certain degree with the right equipment?
and using one reduces the chances of snap-back? i see that its really reduced when u hook the line towards the front of the arrow, and not the back.wolffishlover;4215171; said:

Never tie the line directly onto the arrow dont be cheap just buy a slide. If you tie it onto the front itll just make the arrow fly funny.
i kinda meant that, i wouldnt be a fan of ghetto-rigged equipment if it meant a barbed arrow flying at me. i was just sayin, some ppl did attach their line to the back of the arrow, and it caused that problem, but with the safety slide it reduces that.likestofish;4215271; said:

the main problem with them arrows isn't that the line is tied to the back (witch i personaly dislike) it is the fact that the barbs aren't neerly strong enough...the muzzy tips have steel barbs and they will never bend from shooting a fish, unlike the cheap stuff...
a good tip is to bring many arrows as i can't tell you how many times i have gone out and had a day cut short due to broken knocks/tips...have a 'kit' with you that has knocks and super glue/epoxy as you can reknock an arrow and have it setting up to be ready to go next time...we go out with around 5-8 spare arrows and the 'kit' with many knocks and extra iron tips...
use a loop on the slide so you can quick change out the arrow...we epoxy the nots though it isn't needed...
note: i never used the tie to the back arrows, but my uncle does...they have the same tips that come with the cheaper gray reel/spool...all my snap backs have been from the line looping around the back of the spool and getting caught...the only thing that can 100% prevent them from happening is with the AMS reel (the more expensive one)...then if you ever get a snap back it would be do to operator error and not just the line being stupid with twists...
any questions just ask...
another thing is to go on clear calm days for the best results...were gray or white shirts as then they think you are a cloud and you can get closer...sky blue works well aswell to blend into the sky...if you have red or black they see everything you do and run early...keep your shaddow behind you as they will bolt if your shaddow coversthem or they see it...
