Bowfin questions

So I'm getting two baby bowfin finally lol here Thursday from eBay think there were some others on here that got some as well too. a little nervous because I've never got fish from the internet before but hope all goes well. Any who I got two of them and was wondering if they'll be compatible with each other for some time never have seen anyone keep two of them together. Only plan to keep one of them in the long run just wanna weed out the better looking one of the two. Hopefully one is male which brings me to my next question does anyone know if there is a size difference between male and female and how to tell the difference I know males with get a almost teal color to them when about to spawn but other than that have know idea how to differentiate the sexes. Also wanting to feed them pellets or some cut up fish/shrimp which I've never done before with any of my other fish is there any benefits to one over the other?

They really aren't comparible with other bowfin.

Bowfin only show breeding colors after a wintering period.

Stuff the pellets in the fish fillets/shrimp etc.
They can be difficult to get on pellets.

Go for something with a high protein content(check what's for sale locally).
