Bowfin

Be careful if you end up with a bowfin. I've never kept them but I fished for them before. They are very strong fish, so I would make sure your tank is strong enough to withstand an impact from one. Also, they are mean. When out of the water they get angry and will take a nice bite in your fingers if they get too close. Other than that I think it would be an awesome fish to keep. They do look really cool and they have lived since prehistoric times. They eat pretty much anything I tink, so that is nice and convenient.

I'd say bichirs and bowfin are pretty comparable as far as aggression goes. Another fish with similar appearance and disposition to the fish you want is the wolf fish (actually several species are available, all in the genus Hoplias).

is there a section for wolf fish and tiger fish? they sure do look interesting! and thanks!

I really wish bowfin were legal to keep in CA, but I guess we've got enough non native species wreaking havoc on our ecosystem already.

If you want a fish that actually moves and shows life-id advise against a wolf fish.Just my 2 cents-boring fish unless its eating

my bowfin is pretty laid back 8-10" long eats krill, fish fillets and sinking carnivore pellets lives with a 12" c/k and a pair of jack dempseys. this is one of my favriote fish i would wait till you find one, verry hardy and easy to take care of.
