Bowfin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To catch them, I just rig a ~5" bluegill about 12" down on a big bobber in water with no overhead cover and wait...sometimes a couple hours. Bowfin seem to cruise around a lot more than bass or catfish based on where I catch them and seem to be out actively hunting rather than lying in wait under cover. It was scorching hot out in the middle of the day when I caught these.

You don't want no piece of me, buster!

When you try to put me into your native community tank with "agressive tankmates" like Green Sunfish, I might get all naughty!

That's exactly what my bait kept looking like after I would get a nibble! hahahaha

Could you give us more information on who at bowfinanglers is selling fish? Was it shipped or local, etc.

I have been all over that site very regularly, and I cound not find the link to "buying" native fish: IE. Bowfins & Gar!!

I was too cheap to pay for the membership to NANFA that I also heard as a source for native NA fish. Without members access, I did not find a link to purchase of native monster fish.

As THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS sidepoint IN THE HISTORY of Amia Calva, and I assume that you read MAPS from the site:

The map shows the geographic range of Amia Calva in the USA. There are "live catch" reports of Bowfin in every state with fossil record evidence on this map WITH THE SINGLE EXCEPTION of the state of Maryland.

I love this fish even more now. This fish is obviously alot more intelligent than I am and smart enough to avoid the Nutsack of America. I say nutsack, because it (Maryland) rests right on top the anus of America, Washington, D.C.

Which the Bowfin also stealthfully avoided. If only Americans had half the common sense of the Bowfin, we might straighten this country out!
