in the river
i found a yellow marginated box turtle today crossing the street on a main rod leaving the area near my house. i am going to take pics in the morning and post found posters in the area so i dont want to set up a permanent home for him until i know if i can find an owner or not...so im thinking another 54gal rubbermaid like i use for my redfoots with some orgainc potting soil and a wading dish...plus a uv light. let me know what you think...ill post the flicks of him tomm. my camera is charging. thanks

Sounds like it will work fine short term. I wouldn't post pics on your signs around town and I would suggest asking potential turtle claimers to describe the turtle in detail to be sure it really is their lost pet. Too many people will try to score a free turtle.

i agree cichla i thought about that too after i was getting ready to actually print flyers...i left the photo off... and to answer mr v. one the area he was found is near the ocean two they are not a thriving species here and almost every pet shop has never had one here...they are normally brought in by the person who wants them to get them here petstores dont bring them in cause their price(kingsnake sells babies for $145 for 2" shell and i saw a 2yr for $250, so imagine the price of an adult the ship to hawaii...thats why price per turtle most pet stores here wont bring em) and not many people know about these compared to the ornates and such...

How do you know its not wild?

I don't believe HI. has any native turtles. Actually, I don't think it has any native reptiles at all. Well maybe a few gecko species. Most animals and plants there are not native.

that is true vicous...hey since you have box turtles anything you can recommend i tried an earthworm but he said no...

Try offering crickets with the back legs pulled off so they can't hop away. They'll usually pounce on em. I would also put some fruit in there with him.

didnt take to a cricket last night , no earthworm today, no tomato, no grated carrots, and no cantaloupe...i think he is too stressed to eat cause right now i have him in a 20L...so now that the flyers are printed im off to go post them and then head to home depot pick up rubbermaid for this guy and some organic potting soil for he and my redfoots...pics tonight i promise

Nice find Vicetard. Hope you find it a home.
