New Orleans
I live in new orleans to start.

Found a box turtle living in my back yard and hes like kinda big about 6" at least he dug under some mud by a tree stump in my yard. My g/f of course already named him and wants to pull him out to play with.

I have a very game 7 year old pittbull who is outside a lot and so far has not cared about it, but dont want her to hurt it!

Should i release it in a local park? i was gonna just make a lile shaded area out of wood or whatever and maybe some greens for it........blah blah ok il check back need to get back to work.

ha ha ha... u know once your g/f named it, its going to be a pain to release it. Cause now the questions arise like "how is he going to find for food or survive in the rain". lol. I had a bad experience with that before can you tell. Good luck

haha yea sounds about right ;)

really we thought maybe a pet who got out or dug out well kids were playing with it outside?
i live right outside the city.

box turtles are entrenched to their home range, so if that range is your backyard, thats its home, if you try to take it to a nearby park it will eventually just walk back from the park to your backyard

Yep, Box Turtles are well known for their homing instincts and will find their way back home if they happen to be removed from it and released else where. I would just leave it alone. I'm sure it will move along when it's ready.

k besides a nice shady spot should i water the yard more/less?
i wanna make it happy so it will stay around, but where was it the whole time before how would i miss such a large turtle......i do have a larg yard though lol.

just have to worry bout my dog.

If you feed something it will come back for more, so just feed it, shade it, and block off its area so your dogdoesn't get to it, plan? lol
