Boxer dogs - how tough are they?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ducati what would you say is a good, nice playful dog that can defend itself? Even against wild dogs etc.

Boxers sound lovely, but from what I've heard it sounds quite surprising for a boxer too, ripping another dog apart. Maybe it was just a particularly protective and vicious one.

pretty possitive it was a pure bread. I was really young though, so I could be wrong. But it was real agresive!! my dad had told me that the reason the golden retriever died was because our dog, max, ripped open its throat! Another dog that is unbelievably protective is the Chinese Charpe' (i know that is spelled wrong). I have one now...... he's great.

I have a Boxer. He is 4, and we raised him from a puppy. IMO, they are the BEST kind of dog to have. They are great protectors, watch dogs, and they love kids. I have never had any problems with my Aries. He is a wonderful dog. He gives unconditional love, hugs, and kisses. They are very smart, and will try to outsmat you, I took my big baby to dog training school. I now can control my 100#'s of muscle dog with little or no effort. They do need constant exercise, and love to play, and play, and play, and play....! So they would be the perfect dog for you little guy.
Now, mine is a little out of the norm for the size Boxers usually get. He came from a champion father who weighed in at at whoping 106lbs. Males are supposed to be about 75-85lbs, and females get to be about 60-65lbs. Make sure he comes from a good breeder, or a Boxer Rescue. Read up on them also.

Hope this helps!

Jen ;)

I like Boxers alot !! they are a great family dog with a excellent temperment and can be trusted around kids ( but with all dogs it depends on the animal itself). One of my favorite
but the sad part about them is they dont live long - For some strange reason they dont live as long as lets say a lab, and they sometimes only live as long as a large breed (st.benard or mastiff). But they are of a smaller size and frame....I didnt get one because of that - Everybody who had one lost it sooner than other types of dogs....it was sad to see

Im not sure what types of wild dogs you have and how serious a problem it is - but Black labs (yellow too) could be a possible all around choice - great family dogs, larger than boxers, can defend themselves pretty good (not "killers" like Pits, or rotties) and play well with other friendly dogs....not sure if they are located where you are....

Or you can go over kill and get a english mastiff (like I did- it was a rescue), one of the most sensitive creatures that weigh 230 + lbs, overly protective, and pretty much will dominate any or all dogs of any type. If raised correctly they are the most loving heavy weights that crave affection with their 50lb head in your lap. Just by their size most dogs just skip the conflict part - and stay away....they need lots of room by the way

It sounded like a sad day either way...the loss of two dogs is never a good thing

I recently rescued a cute little fluffy dog, that must have been abandoned. It's a really really nice dog, but gets over excited and lairy with bigger dogs, starts jumping up and cuffing them etc. I have to pick it up to prevent fights. It also demands constant attention and playing, so soon I would like to buy it a companion.

I want to buy a bigger, tougher dog that can protect it, so I don't have to worry and can let them off the leash etc in public.

I was thinking of a boxer, I think they look beautiful, but I also hear they are very charming and amusing dogs.

My question is - how tough are they? How would they fair against a doberman, alsation - something like that? They look tougher, but I don't know a lot about them.

Joe a friend of mine has had 2 loves them to bit but the 2 of them died of cancer They also have a Tendency for allergies and heart problems it’s the same old story of pedigree dogs getting inbred the last one he got was a boxer Labrador cross and this is the one he has to this day it has a wonderful temperament and looks like a boxer and he has had no problems with her.

my dog is a boxer mis and he is awesome.. but most pure bred boxers are very energetic their first few years.. i wouldnt be looking fo a dog just to defend another i have had medium sized dogs that could handle just about any large dog and i have had large dogs that i would never want to see atack anything just because of the consequences (like my dog now) but boxers are great mine is so protective of the new baby its almost scary... any new person that comes to hold the baby has to be checked over by him first

My 5 month old puppy beats the hell out of our neigbors boxer. They are just playing though. Yeah, boxers are really cool dogs to have. Just have to get them away from the boxing thing (I think they instictively go for the groin).

guiness how about this dont ****ing be an ass.. you saying he dosent deserve a dog is like us saying we hope your fish ****ing die..

I used to like boxers. But I knew a person with one and they arent that bright. They drool, bite, chew and bark way too much. I cant stand dumb dogs anymore (pits, rotts, boxers, bulls, whatevers). Im digging wolves and hybrids. I had a hybrid myself, very intelligent, independent (I could leave him at the forrest and he'll be fine for a year), and extremely loyal (would give its life to protect me and my family or friends).

If you have the time and money, look for a pure bred Jindo. They get about 40-60 lbs, and need alot of excersize. They bark at strangers, but not excessivley, and not dangerous to man (unless they are a threat). They are born house trained, they go as far as possible to urinate or take a crap.

This is my dog Scooby *RIP
