Boy, have things changed.........

I am disappointed in this thread and so far for most of the people that have posted in it. I first started to read this and it seemed reasonable, but then just got worse and worse and in my opinion far overstated and very unrealistic images of what happens in society today. Laws and regulations are made as codes of conduct for society to abide by. Why do you think they have these regulations, because things have happened like this in history. I honestly cannot believe most of the people are agree with this and have such a negative image on our society. What if someone made a list that showed the negative aspects of not having these regulations in our society/country, im pretty positivie many minds would be changed.

So why don't you start with that list;)?

I fully subscribe to the original thread. It is not only in the US, but also in Europe.

But am ready and open to debate with you ( and anybody else ) the points you will raise in your list.

More changes happening follows......

I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.

I ordered a burger at McDonalds and the kid behind the
Counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"

CEO's are now playing miniature golf.

If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds,"
You call them and ask if they meant you or them.

Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM.

McDonalds is selling the 1/4 ouncer.

Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and
Learned their children's names.

A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico .

Dick Cheney took his stockbroker hunting.

Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore.

The Mafia is laying off judges.

Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.

Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal.
Oh Great!! The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated
by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear......good ol' congress.

So you're saying that if one person in one place does something harmful, that every other person in the state or nation should suffer? Just look at the drug war for failed policy. All research and successful drug policy shows that treatment should be increased, and law inforcement decreased while abolishing mandatory minimum sentences. They're trying to build a prison for you and me. (SOAD, Prison Song) Just because one group struggles with the effects of a supposed crime doesn't mean that every single person alive is incapable of engaging in the activity without experiencing harmful side effects.

Actually it isn't an overstatement for some parts of this country. In the north east Mass particularly this is spot on. Just think back to those two idiots who made the Aqua Teen hunger force boxes, and the ensuing crap storm. As far as corporal punishment for children, here it's frowned upon in the extreme (they even tried to ban it outright) and our child abuse figure haven't changed. Real abusers as opposed to frustrated parents know how to game the system very well. I don't' agree with spanking (if you need to spank you've lost control of the situation) but banning it has had little effect except for some red neck idiots getting cuffed for smacking his kid at walmart.

On the other hand the rosy view of "back then" is total bull****. Anyone familiar with the darker side of American history from that time would know better than to think the 50's was great. Everything from how we fought wars to how the mentally handicapped were treated was horrid.

It had its problems, big problems, for sure ( I was born in the 60's ), BUT what I would give to have us all go back in time. The simplicity of it all.....
