Brand new DSA 225g setup journal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Small update. Went by the Lfs to see my tank again. Still very pretty. Finally got my fishroom/playroom in order. Setup a delivery for February 8th. Then the fun begins. Also decided on "final" stocking.

1x large green Severum
1x medium sized "super red" Severum
8x geo altifrons
1x flagtail
1x fire eel
3x plecos (L001, L190 and L330)

I might do so cardinal tetras or something similar depending on how full the tank looks later on.

I am also ordering socks and hangers Friday so I should have everything here before the tank actually gets here. But I'm sure there will still be a few trips to home depot for plumbing supplies.

Very nice!! Rooting for it to all work out for ya! I wanted to get mine drilled with an overflow and sump but decided to go the route of canisters for filtration in hopes to keep it all quiet.. That's a rad footprint too! I have a standard 180 comin this week and yours is just couple of inches depth and height and gives you +45 gallons.. shoot- :(

I would personaly add much more fish beacause that is a pretty light stock IMO... Maybe a few more cichlids and a birchir? Nice tank anyway...:)

I want to keep it from being over stocked. I keep going back and forth between altifrons and threadfin Acura. I'm back with the Acura for now. I think as they grow he tank will fill in nicely.

Tank is being delivered tomorrow at 1pm. I am very excited. I will post pics ASAP.

New tank day!!!!!!

It was delivered at 1pm. Tank, Stand, Canopy and 75g. They were barely out of the driveway and we were already taping up the back to paint it. It came with 2 megaflow overflow kits. I already have 3x1" bukheads as I hate the 1" ones that come with the kits. I found out after the fact the kits come with 3/4" return bulkheads that have hose barbs for vinyl tubing. so I have to order 2x 3/4" bulkheads slipxslip because I am hard plumbing everything. I either have to make another durso or order one as the tank only came with 2 kits and I have 3 drains. I should have it painted completely by tonight. I can mock up the plumbing for the drains using the 2 stanpipes (doing both of those and then movng one to the empty whole and then doing the third.) I might go ahead and mount the lights in the canopy tonight, we'll see how things go. In the meantime here is some pics!!!!

Don't mind the nozzle, just there for decoration.

We had to "modify" the stand for the sump. Gotta love cutting up a brand new factory stand. I'm gonna touch it up after I paint the tank.

Got my drain lines mocked up. havent glued yet though, I want to make sure it doesn't obstruct my returns. It should be perfect!

Todays to do list:

1: Wash 150lbs of Black Diamond sand
2: Hang lights in canopy
3: Order bulkheads for returns and timer for lights.
4: Start plumbing returns.
5: Build an extra durso standpipe.

I did 3 coats of behr black velvet paint on the back. It turned out amazing! Alot better than the cheap walmart flat black I used for my 36g. Once I build the 3rd standpipe my drains will be done. I can mock up the returns and get them 90% done, but then I will be stuck waiting on the bulkheads for them. I knew I should have just spent the extra $6 and ordered them when I ordered the 1" bulkheads. I should have them by tuesday. I heard the BDS is a pain to clean. I guess I will find out shortly. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Hanging the lights should take about 5 minutes, using the 2x 48" beamswork single brite lights off my old 220. Hopefully the cover enough for my liking :)
