Brand New Piranha

His compressus looks a little like my irritans.. i have noticed the the compressus look like fat irritans and they look a little like younger altuvie minus the red.. this is all from pictures though.. i havent seen any of the rarer species in person.. but hey man you have a beautiful fish there no matter what it turns out to be.. it would be nice to add another species to the list tho huh?

yeah, i'm not gonna care either way, but i really wanna know what it is. i'm not really concerned with labels all that much or how rare things are, i just like the way this one looks, and i think it's gonna look really nice in a couple months.

ak, i posted that new pic in my thread over in the id forum at p-fury, it's a much better pic than what frank saw earlier, so maybe it'll help to sway his opinion one way or the other

Unless his calibration is off on his monitor-I dont see why he can't ID from that pic...

now that i look at the picture of the compressus on this page.. the spangling on the body of the fish in question is very similar..much more then your youung rhom.. i cant be certain im in no way a professional..

i sure hope so, he wouldn't say for sure after looking at the other pics, but they were not very good. he also said i'd need to get it in better shape tho.

i really wanted to have piranha one day somehow. but piranha here in the Philippines is strictly prohibited.

but on the other hand, your piranha looks promising to me.

Congrat with the new pick up!....im 90% sure what species is it, but in order for me to really say 100% can you take more pictures? with flash especially on the bottom of the piranha and with anal fin.

thanks man, i'm about 99% sure that i know what it is, but there is no way in hell that i am going to question frank... if he told me it was a duck, that's what i would go with, haha. i'll see what i can do about a better pic, but the one i have is about as good as it gets for a fish that's in as rough shape as this one.

Well to me my guess would be Serra. Sanchezis..base on the gill, anal fin, tail and body shape. I want a close up pictures on the bottom of the fish right next to the anal fin to be sure it's a Sanz.

there were a few people that were quite sure that it was a sanchezi until it started showing barring.... there is still the possibility of it being a rhom, but frank has pretty much narrowed it down to compressus, rhom, or an as of yet unidentified species
