Brasiliensis or Blue Jack Dempsey?

lol yeah, you got me there...lol. But Brasiliensis around 7" are as aggressive as some GTs. Your best bet would be to try either fish and see. GL.
 
I have a male Brasiliensis about 5"s very nice specimen, however if you like BJD's I would get a Carpintis instead like a escondido or a vontehillo
 
Carpintis would be a excellent choice. Other than that not much out there, Jack dempseys are nice too when large, you could get all males or all females. What about vieja guttalutus? 'Cobalt blues' I still think carpintis would be best check with tuic, Jeff has some larger sized ones at a good price

i was going to suggest a tex too but it sounds like he doesnt want something that agressive.
 
You could go with Carpintis however they will get 7-10 inchs.
 
I would say Texas....... they're gorgeous. It'd be able to stand it's own but if it's smaller than the others it may have a more passive attitude.
