My guy just ate his first meal a few minutes ago. Blackworms were on the menu and he could only resist for so long before he started scouring for what he could find on top of the substrate. I'll post some pics next weekend when he's sitting pretty with his cousins :)
 
Hey all,
A little update:
Today all 10 of the little guys are doing well. Their clamped fins are no longer clamped and they look better than ever. My special recipe of baking soda and ocean salt combined with a higher temp of around 82F has worked like a charm.
As for feeding, I have been offering them live blackworms and they have been picking at them constantly. However today I picked up a load of live guppies, most of which were very small. They hit them in true wild Cichla fashion....feasting until their bellies were swollen. In fact, their bellies are still swollen and there is still a bunch swimming around. I will now always have a constant supply of live guppies in the tank...a technique that I have always used. This time I decided to try the blackworm route first...nah, I'll go with my proven methods of years past :)

I've got mine in 85* water. He's been incredibly active and a bright gold color as well. His appetite is fierce so I think I'm sticking with it. What do you normally keep yours at?

80-82F. This way I can go up to 85-88F if I have to medicate. Any higher and you need quite a lot of aeration to hold a good level of DO. Cichla are tricky in that they need a lot of DO, but also need a very warm temperature. The warmer the water the less DO it can hold, so there in lies the major battle.
 
lol i keep my cichla tanks at 87 ..lmfao..... my guys are smashing black worms and are soon to get a mixed diet of guppies and black worms.... funny thing is they don't eat like kelberis :( soon to find out in time

i have the same prob with fin clamping on my kelberi too
