If you use a bottom dweller it shouldn't mess with the Oscars swimming space. If it were me I would get a male convict. They are beautiful little fiesty fish. GL

This is the suggestion I agree with. (Except I'd get a female Convict cuz it'd stay smaller than a male). Up your water changes and get a Convict if you can't upgrade to a 75 g right now. Female Cons are fast fast fast. You can put some tiny tubes or pots in there that only the Con can fit in. I've got a runt 3" Texas in with my 10" Flowerhorn. He's mean but he needs something to break up the boredom. He can't catch this Texas and she has literally 12-15 tiny pots and tubes that she dashes to all the time. A Convict would be a small bio-load and the Oscar would at least have some other living creature in with him.

When I was a teenager I had 2 very large Oscars in a 55gallon and never thought twice about it. That had to be terrible on those fish. In all fairness to the fish I would save up for a 75 gallon or larger. You can get used tanks dirt cheap and then sell your 55 and get most of the money back. I wouldn't put any dithers in with the Oscar. Most of them get too big.

I too agree that you are much better offer saving up/waiting for a larger tank (get a 90 instead of a 75- same footprint only it looks better with more water volume) before I added any oscar friends.

a 55 is just not enough water volume most of the time for a big oscar plus tankmates..you dont want to kill yourself doing water changes all the time..

I agree. Patience is a virtue.

You could always try putting in a ping pong ball for it to try and eat, try being the key word here. Make sure the ball is bigger then its mouth and you should be fine. You could even get a second one, poke a hole in it, fill it with a little water, then put a dab of silicon over the hole and presto you have a mid floating toy! Bright coloured rocks might interest the oscar as well.

This way you don't end up with a heavier bioload either.

lol "back in the day" when i kept my two O's in my 55 gal, my angels kept em company. and they still do in my 100 :D lol. my oscars and angels sometimes "schoal" with eachother

but in your case, save money to get a bigger tank, and your choices will grow. :D

I think with your filtration you have it will fine with an oscar and some giant danios or other fish.
It's not like your putting a koi in a 10 gallon or something :)
Like I said, I have the same setup as you 2004exrider.....a 55 with an oscar, but I have 5 giants danios and wait for it, wait for it.....a pleco :hitting:
I know if people are telling you you need a bigger tank, they are really going to let me have it....
