Im thinking about making major tank renovations including changing my 29 gallon into a large feeder fish tank.
There are certain things I am looking for in my feeder tank though.
I want it to be low management (so fish that will breed like crazy and I don't have to separate the fry from mom and dad)
and I would like for the feeders to be able to be fed to my 15ish inch tire track eel.
any tips on what type of feeders I should do? I was thinking guppies or maybe ghost shrimp?
and would java moss be a good idea for creating a hiding place for the fry?

any tip would be helpful right now

That might work. but how consistent would the supply of fry be? I would only be able to keep 2 adults more than likely because of how small the aquarium is.

A 29 gallon is perfect for cons as males generally top out at 6" or less. They will take care of the fry well by themselves also. You can leave the fry with the parents and scoop some out to feed your eel. Most of my cons will share the tank with their fry until ready to spawn again. Usually when the fry are right around 1". As the pair grow the spawns get larger.

alright cool. is there a specific tank setup that should be used to breed them? like do they need a lot of hiding places? and do they need a place to lay eggs? ( i know nothing about convicts)

Give them a terra cotta pot or some type of cave. Something easy for them to get in and out of. Alot of cons will lay eggs on the sides of the tank or even dig to the bottom glass. Ive found most of mine prefer to lay eggs on the ceiling of their cave or pot.

Odds are you will enjoy your pair and see them as something more than feeder factories. Awesome fish in their own right. Especially when spawning and guarding their fry.

Good luck!
