He is actually one of the smaller, but he is never bugged. I have him in a 120 (6 ft) with a ton of other fish now, and he doesn't show his color 24/7 but I would say about 2-3 hours a day a least he is looking like that. But out of the mbuna I have never seen him chase or be chased, so I figure he just struts about and no one cares.

do you all keep these males in the same tank? or do you have species only?

I don't do species only tanks - I feel they are a bit boring. Mixed tanks offer so much more.

so then you mix your different types then? Do you breed them as well?

Yes I do. I keep them together but in an organized manner. I don't keep similiar species together, and I watch to see whose "showing" for who. If I see a male interested in an opposite species (hasn't happened yet, knock on wood) I move the species around.
