So, i had my hystrix breed back in august http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOrOPkJg2FQ
It was done by my male 11" motoro and my smaller 10" female hystrix.
I saw it happen so i figured i would have pups in 4 months... then about 2 months later no movement, and all of a sudden my male motoro one day was all over her again, and my bigger 11" female hystrix. I witnessed him attempt to breed them both several times during the day and each time he could not get them stuck. He would go to the bottom of the tank and "unload". a few hours later he was trying again, same thing after about 30 min. he would go to the bottom of the tank and "unload" again. Finally i saw him succeed again. This went on for about 2 days and finally he decided to leave them both alone.
I assumed they were pregnant, it has been 2 months again and i have my doubts they are indeed pregnant. BUT my male is not messing with them either (which is a good sign). But it has been 73 days now for my smaller one and i dont see movement, and it is hard to tell if she is swollen (as hystrix are so tall and fat anyway).
My bigger one is a little over 6 weeks (maybe) and just dont think she is either.
Whats the deal? is it possible that this cross (male motoro with female hystrix just dont work?) i know big dave bred hystrix x motoro but had a hystrix male.
Anybody have any thoughts? anybody seen this cross?
ive never seen this male have trouble breeding my female motoro. But she was always way bigger than him. maybe they have a hard time getting flipped and in position when they are about the same size.
