i belive that digger's hystrix were some of the same batch as mine which would be the same age and his have been breeding... i will clarify this with him and see.
sorry but there is fish keeping.... then there is ray keeping. we keep rays and post in the ray section. the hybrid section wouldnt know what to do with our posts so we keep them where they belong.
thanks for stopping by.
I dug out a copy of a paper by Patricia Charvet-Almeida et al, 2005. Reproductive Aspects of Freshwater Stingrays (Chondrichthyes: Potamotrygonidae) in the Brazilian Amazon Basin. One of the ray species studied was Potamotrygon sp. C, or the Brazilian hystrix. The authors found these rays mature at an early age (estimated at 2 years) and at a fairly small size; females @170 mm, males @160 mm disc width. They also suggested reproduction was triggered by changes in the hydrologic cycle.
If this is the case, how come we don't have pups yet?????
very interesting! Kinda hard to believe, but my other male hystrix i lost was rolled claspers at 6".
After speaking with digger a while back he also believe that is what triggered his hystrix was hydroligic cycle. he did some experiments with water temp to replicate rainy season. He said it worked,.
how big are yours now Jason?
Thanks for the reading material Jason.
I wonder if more frequent water changes coupled with dropping the temp for a period of time would simulate a rainy season, thus triggering a spawn.
It's something I have been considering in hopes of kicking my Marbles in.that is exactly what digger did. He said he did this for a week or two i believe. i just sent him a message to give his input
