Breeding and maintaining mealworms

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes the beetles lay the eggs. They hatch in around 2 week is warm enough. The eggs hatch and the mealworms grow until they will then pupate. They will stay this way for a good week or two then hatch into beetles. The beetles then mate and have eggs and so on. No problem for asking.

My good ole breeding mealworm thread. Long time no post.

Maybe I should update.

I have thousands upon thousands of mealworms now! I stopped for awhile, but have multiple tubs going with alot of beetles. Also finally selling some too!

Some pics.

Gave them some spaghetti squash. They will eat anything really. Just don't want it too wet or it can cause mites/mold.

Also rigged up a rack.

The fish love these.

The beetles don't fly and they and the mealworms can't climb plastic. Plus a lid usually causes too much humidity which can cause mites.

Unless you have kids or a nosy dog no lid is preferable or a lid with a screened lid.

Got some legit racks going. I can hold (20) 28 quart tubs if I double stack like I did in the second pic. Excited! I just need to go through them all and do some separating. It does help if you separate the life stages, but it isn't needed.

Also made a sale thread.
