Breeding ball pythons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok so I just weighed my female bumblebee for my own knowledge instead of going off of what the breeder told me and he said she weighs 2500g. Well she weighs a little more than 1600. So my question is should I stop breeding her until late this upcoming season. She only had one confirmed lock should I just leave it at that? I just got a 2600g orange ghost female that is huge and chunky Imy guessing I should just breed her instead
Final lesson learned, Young Jedi. Weighing a snake before breeding is ALWAYS the 1st thing you do.

Let's hope IF she does ovulate, they are slugs.

In the future, don't trust anyone trying to sell you something.

If they are slugs wouldn't that be just as hard on her as her having regular eggs?
No, slugs can be as little as half the size of healthy fertilized eggs. There is a good chance that she may still ovulate and lay, but at this point successful copulation isn't likely after 1-2 mating sessions. Possible, yes but slugs would be the best of a bad situation.

Make sure you weigh the other female before you decide to breed her. Hopefully this lesson learned won't turn out bad, but I knew I had a gut-feeling for a reason the moment I saw this thread. Just keep your fingers crossed and think long and hard about what you do before acting on it. It takes minutes to weigh a snake. In this hobby/business you learn quickly to take PLENTY of time to think things out 1st, calculate numbers carefully and several times to check it; and research everything people tell you before accepting it as fact.

Measure twice, cut once. You don't want to be one of those people sitting there saying "I cut it 3 times and it was still too short"......by that point it's too late.

The other female is over 2500g. I weighed her because I was curious at to how much she weighs and when I saw that she was 2500 I knew something wasnt right with the bumblebeesame weight. I should've know known now I have records of all of there weight. I understand I shouldn't have been so dumb. The guy was an ass.

lol, are you OK?

Lol I think so... haha.. this whole situation made an ass out of me lol. So this is a bad case senerio I guess so what if she does have actual eggs with baby's in them instead of duds? Is she going to be in harms way?

I don't think you look like an ass......you did good. A little impulsive, that's all. Just take your time from now on. It's not a race to get females to breeding size and breed as soon as possible. Relax and enjoy the ride getting there.

.....but I think the guy who sold them to you and gave you the information and advice he gave you looks like an ass. My partner and my mentor are the only 2 people I trust in this hobby/business

What's done is done, we will worry about that and prepare for it when the time comes....IF it comes. Don't waste time worrying about it that - it would be better spent learning other things and improving skill level. Too many people think admitting to a mistake and saying we were wrong is bad but it is a part of growing and becoming better. We have all been there and done that and that's why we kknow for the future. Being wrong is a GOOD thing......you can't be right until you know where you went wrong. Only after identifying a mistake can we then takes the proper steps to correct them and become right, ultimately.

It's not about how far you fall. It's about how high you can jump for the rebound.

There's a whole sub-forum on MFK called "Lessons Learned" for a reason

Yes that is true well thank you for all of your help and now I know. Now I'm trying to learn all of the het stuff. There will always be more things to learn
