breeding Crenicichla lenticulata

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hasnt been done to the best of our knowledge. could be from lack of effort and dedication. could be no one has found the right combination of fish, elements, food. never hurts to try, i know im gonna give it a go someday.

Like Salty said, Most pikes require soft or black water for breeding, quite a bit of work and dedicatiion to match those requirements.
I to am gonna give it a whirl when I get the group of pikes that I want.

Since they get appx 16" and you should start out with a least a group of 3 hopefully forming a natural bond between one male and one female to achieve a pair, I would use a 125. ( for a subadult or adult pair)
Depending on what size you get them at.

It takes six unsexed fish to have virtual assurance that one pair is present.

I have a pair. The male is approx 12". The female about 10" They get along fantastically. Right now they are in a 125 and I'll be honest, I think it is big enough for the pair to breed in. This weekend I'll be hooking the tank up with RO so we'll see how it affects their mood. I've also been pumping them full of high protein foods and the female is getting pretty round.

I'll post some pics as they have changed quite a bit since I last posted pics.

Hopefully I'll have something to show for it here in a few weeks. :naughty:

we all hope you have something to show for it gl.

Definaterly. Did they end up being strigata though? Been so long since you posted pictures of them wasn't sure how they turned out. Definately keep a tab on it, would be very very cool if you could get them to breed. Man, that would open a lot of doors!! Do it bro!!!

I just bought a pair ~7-8". At first it was not thought to be but they are pairing up and I wanted to know at what stage of their life will they mate? I'll contact Jim and will post these magnificient species later!!!
