I breed Blaptica dubia Roaches for feeders. They are live breeders, they don't stink like crickets, can't fly or climb glass either. For now I keep mine in a 10 gallon aquarium with an under tank heater. They need to be kept around 90 degrees. I feed mine crushed dog food, mango baby food, apple sauce, grated carrots, fish flakes, crushed cereal and Flukers Cricket Quenchers.

They don't need to be kept at that high of temp, mine are kept at room temp 70-75 (even colder in winter) and my colony thrives.

Well they are a tropical species and I got a starter colony in March that is just now breeding. They breed and mature faster if kept warmer. But once you have a colony that is breeding well and producing lots of babies, you can turn down the temps some. Still, I hear that room temp is way too cool for B. dubia.

The key is Jason I don't call them "Roaches". I call them "Dubia Beetles".

My girl said HELL no. Normally, she just laughs at my ideas, and says no. This time, she was quite adamant :(

You know what they say, though....."No means maybe" :headbang2

I was a little skeptic at first too about breeding roaches but I'm hooked now that they are breeding. I do want them to build up their numbers first before I starting feeding them off heavily. I gave a few extra adult male roaches to my Pixie Frog. I though they might be a little too big for him but he tackles them and eats them like it's his job.

My wife encourages the breeding of roaches because it keeps the cricket bill down, and now that I have mostly insect eaters its very important to have a couple of stable colonies! lol ....
