Breeding L200s?

It was 3m:2f. The large male is still breathing, and is attempting to swim, but not succeeding at all. I don't think that he can see either.
 
The large L200 is still breathing and moving around a little, but still has not regained full mobility. STill breathing, and if he doesn't make a recovery in the next few days, he will be put down.
 
Ouch, I didn't expect this kind of news.
Phantoms are one of my favorite plecs. I've been reading this thread fairly frequently hoping for the best, shame this happend, damn the luck.

I'm very sorry for your losses, hopefully the males can recover fully. Best of luck to ya and your fish.
 
fair enough, if youve done all you can. hope pulls through. shame the females are gone, they would have definately been sexually mature. hopefully you can get more in at the size you did
 
I'm hoping I can get more. The large male and a female had already paired off, and were already being conditioned for breeding.
 
Today the L200s got a new home. During the move I made a discovery. Eggs. Definitely not from the mollies :D, nor from the ramshorn snails. They were in the cave that had been gaurded by the large male. I am certain that had the catastrophy not happened, I would have had some small ones swimming around.

Params were:
pH -- 7.2
KH -- 6dKH
Temp -- 83F
Ammonia -- 0.0
Nitrite -- 0.0
Nitrate -- 0.0

The batch of eggs seemed rather small, but I will continue my observation. There were only ~35 eggs in the cave. However, many could have been eaten, or sucked up the filter prior to me finding them.
 
wow thats a pretty late discovery. take it nothing can come of them now? or not tried. got any pics?
35 doesnt sound like many, but as you say, could be any reason for this...
 
Didn't snap a photo of it. I'll be getting some more L200s soon, so hopefully I will have a few females in this batch.
 
hope you can find them so big. i wouldnt be suprised that one reason for not so many spawning of these fish is down to not enough people trying it with sexually mature females
 
I'd say that both males and females are often thought to be full grown, when they have not even made it to 1/2 of their full size.
