ok my oscar is beaing stuborn and decided recently he doesn't want to eat pellets anymore... so every couple days i have to run down to petco and buy him feeder fish. the question is how hard would it be to breed mollies. if not mollies what else could i do to keep him happy without burning a whole in my wallet? i prefer mollies because being here i don't have a huge selection of fish to breed.

what would i need to look for to get a breeding pair or a few breeding pairs and what tank size would be suitable for a mollie breeding set-up only? anything and everything regarding the reproduction of this fish or any other feedable fish.

Oscars love food...don't feed it for a day or two and it should start accepting pellets.

For mollies get 1 male to 2-3 females, they breed really easily every 6 weeks. A 10g would fit a couple of mollies, but you'd need an extra tank to grow the fry out.

if your oscar is being picky, i think there is an underlying problem. Oscars are not picky by nature, but possibly yours is unique. Convicts breed fast i think they would br the best option.

Jeremiah Johnson is one of the top 5 best movies ever made. Period.

Anyhow, get a 10 or 20g tank & an AC50 filter & a bag of salt. Make the water brackish, fire it up & get ready for Molly fry mania. They dont need to be in pairs... Just get 1 or 2 males and 3 or 4 females. They will do the rest. The fry come out about 1/2" & grow quick for feeding.

I would say get like 2 20 gallon tanks or 1 20 gallon and 2 10 gallons and breed convicts.

i just got back from indiana and while i was there my grandmother gave me a 40 gal tall tank. if this is something that i couldn't use for many uses then i will need to buy a few smaller tanks, also how do i tell the difference between male and female mollies?

edit: yes my oscar was eating the pellets fine, then started to slowly shy away for some reason, then got to the point where he won't even hit the pellet but will taste the algea waffer i feed my pacu.

i am going to petco tonight, what do i need to look for on the mollies to sex them?

Look for the gonopodium on the males.

ok thanks thats helps alot
