south africa
hi guys :headbang2

I am looking into breeding silver arowanas as a mini business. I live in South Africa and there are not many breeders here, however there are lots of fish shops looking for baby aros. I understand the breeding habbits of the fish and their behaviour but am wondering about some things

i want to keep 3 pairs
should i get 3 tanks or 1 big one?
how much water should this or these tanks hold?
how thick should the glass be (i have heard that they smash right through tanks)
anything else i should Know

please give any ideas or comments

thanks in advance
regards
alex

Not really sure how silvers work, but from what I've seen from Asian breeders, you're going to need one very large pond.

And honestly, by the time you pay several thousand dollars for a pond, selling baby silvers isn't going to get you very far in means of profits.

You forgot to mention how each pond usually has some 20-30 aros with a possibility of no pairs forming at all. Start up expenses as you can see is super high. It'll probably just sap your wallet until its completely dry.

I believe in you, you can do it. just believe.

This, exactly!

edit to add: 1001 posts, go me!

silvers are much easier to breed.
easier to breed, sell for less. you would need a much bigger setup. maybe go work for a farm to gain understanding.

I have heard success here. People would go to a farm and take a single breeding pair and house them in their on 600 gal. I have only heard this and am not sure how plausible it is but many lfs here, even good ones say it should work, what do u guys think

I think the LAST thing a farm will do is give up one of their breeding pairs...
