breeding silvers

Well, I guess if you can get a pair of dedicated breeding aro's you're halfway there.

Go for it.

My money is on it not happening. Sorry to bet against you, but I've only seen aros breed in large ponds of 30 or so fish. I've never once heard of someone on here just throwing a couple of aros in a tank and having them breed.

The problem for me is not getting the aros, what i am trying to find out is will a pair breed in a tank if it is big enough?

Get a few 1000g tanks and lets us know how it goes.

I am looking into breeding silver arowanas as a mini business. I live in South Africa and there are not many breeders here, however there are lots of fish shops looking for baby aros. I understand the breeding habbits of the fish and their behaviour but am wondering about some things

i am confused...if lots of shops around you can't find baby aros how is getting aros not a problem for you?...if you have a connection to a large sorce of aros why not skip the whole breeding thing and just supply the stores?...unless the 'business' is a cover story for the wife, then i understand...

the shops are looking for BABY silvers. many lfs dont have the space for adult ones

I spoke to a LFS and told them what i wanted to do, they have built a few tanks for me in the past and said that they can speak to a breeder and get me a pair because they want to build the aro tank for me. Does this make sense?

I am also thinking of building an indoor pond instead of a tank, would this be a better idea, the dimensions would be approx 1m high, 2.75m wide and 3m long, would this be sufficient to house a few aros?

In that video, eggs were dropped, but they weren't fertilized. No little baby arowanas were born.

Hey guys, i think that most of you are right and that i would be wasting my time with arowanas. I was thinking of trying flower horns instead, what do you guys think?
