Cons a 100 gallon with a good group of males and females would it be possible to breed a good steady supply of feeders? Would goldfish or others be faster/easier?

convicts would def be faster n easier just set up dividers

Cons would be fine. I think 3 pair would give you more feeders than you can handle...it would be too many for me ;)

never enough feeders! if you get it going just right you could get them to "fire off" in sequence so that you have constant batches of feeders to give to your fishies.

If I were lazy and just threw 3 pairs in with no dividers and just let nature take its course would it work alright? Id like to make it as simple as possible and just have a tank full of different generations doing what they do and me just scooping out as needed. Would this work or is it asking for trouble? Im guessing aggression may be a problem but what do you guys think?

also what would I have to feed? I dont want to hatch brine but i could do freeze dried. would that work?

Powdered flake should be fine. WIthout dividers, you may see more agression when they pair off. Guppies are easier, IMO- but it really depends on the size and number of fish you hope to feed. btw, nice jacked oscar pic from wikipedia.

They will attack each other to defend there fry. Convict are really protective parents.

arent all cichlids that way.

and cichlids without seperators and breeding is asking for trouble My suggestion is get separators and paint the seperaors with epoxy so the pairs cant see each other. or you could get 3 heaters and three filters and just make compartments each one with its own heater and filter and pair. The filter would have to be sponge thou ( for the fry's sake ) Just my two cents.

I read that Convict pairs need 2 feet of territory. So they will defend their territory and I think you can get away with 3 pairs without a divider, but have one on hand, just in case.
