Hi everyone,

After trying a few different things and a lot of practice wrapping My channa aurantimaculata pair have spawned! The male 12" is currently holding a large mouthful of eggs and has stopped feeding, spending most of the time at the top of the tank taking small gulps of air every 5min or so. The female 15" is still feeding well and acting normally, occasionally swimming up to the male and brushing up against him. Does anyone know how long the eggs will take to hatch?

congrats! I have a pair that are just a little bit bigger then that now, I just upgraded them to a 160g, they courted a bit last year but no fry. I also hope they get it right this year!

Keep us updated !

Thanks,
Mine started occasionally wrapping when I first dropped the temp from 24 to 19. But it was when I increased the variety and frequency of food that they really got into it, wrapping more and more each day. I am now feeding them prawns, cockles, muscles, live earthworms, mealworms, feeder shrimp and locusts. It might be worth a go if you're not already doing it.

Mine are just coming out of winter temperatures now, I do feed a mixture of insects, pellets, chopped frozen smelt , shrimp etc. My male seems to prefer insects, while the female seems to enjoy the pellets just as much as insects.

Random question, what's the weather like ? I'm just curious because I've found in every species I've owned breeding activity almost always lines up with rainy weather.

The outside temp here is around 10-15degrees C during the day and around 5-10 at night. the weather is starting to brighten up on the whole but this is England and the rain never really stops. I did a very small (5-10%) water change with cold fresh water at the same time I removed the heater and slightly increased the flow to simulate rain/melt water.

Wow! Congrats!, you nailed it down!
