Breeding

yes you can and its fairly common practice, I wouldnt do it much past the third generation though. That is when you start seeing some problems with the snakes. You don't really need to worry too much about inbreeding with ball pythons, that gene pool has been scraped so much its not even funny

Genetics matter and inbreeding does have an impact on genetics. With Ball Pythons inbreeding one generation is not 'critical' but it is one step towards a slippery slope.

If you have a sibling pair you are keeping as pets, if they do breed and you want to try your hand at rearing the eggs, have fun with it...

But if you wish to breed as a hobby, then I suggest making the investment of an unrelated mate for your snake/snakes.

It should not be believed that new morphs are created through inbreeding. A couple have been discovered by wild caught siblings, but that is because each snake was het (heterogenous) for the morph it created, not because they are siblings.

You may not want to believe it but the fact is many were created from selective inbreeding. Mind you I'm not saying it should be encouraged for a beginner but many of the designer morphs in the reptile world were created in this manner.

Well there's these two mojave het leucistic balls for sale from a guy I know and he wants 500 for both of them. one male one female and they came from the same clutch. my friend and i both really want leucistics and my friend is very into breeding and is super intelligent when it comes to reptiles. We're both considering splitting the cost of the snakes, we each take one, grow it up, bring them back together to breed and try to get a leucistic. Do you think thats worth it? It could also just be alittle project.

Its up to you man. You are not guaranteed a leucy though but on average, 25% of the clutch will be leucistic. The inbreeding would not mater as long as you are not going to continue to produce and sell young.

As for how morphs are created, you had better believe that these things are inbred. It's not a good practice but unfortunately, it pays well because it produces more morphs at an accelerated rate and there is no need for an investment of a different het (insert ridiculous trait here) batch that are unrelated.

I was also wondering how you start to get different morphs? say i have a mojave and a spider. If i bred these together would i get something different? or just norms? Bc i have a pastel atm and was wondering if i could breed with anything else to get some other cool morph. also If i got the mojave what else i could breed it with to get a cool morph. or if I'd just get more norms

well morphs get fairly tricky as you get more into it but from my limited knowledge of balls there are codominant morphs, recessive morphs, and dominant morphs, a dominant morph wud be anything that there isnt a super form of like a spider or a pinstripe, a codominant is any morph that you can breed together and get a "super form" like 2 pastels together is 25% chance of getting a super pastel, or 2 mojaves is a 25% chance of blue eyed leucistics. You can combine all these any which way you like pretty much there is no real set of rules....you can breed any of your morphs with any other morphs in hopes of getting something cool
