I disagree. The ray is more likely to eat the bristlenose plec, then the plec harming the ray. Nonetheless, I've found that the big bnp do well with rays that can't cactch them. Provide plenty of hiding space for them and keep your rays well fed and they'll be fine.

If you provide them with hiding places and they use them then what's the point in having them
1 you won't see them
2 they won't come out to eat the green
3 all the pleco crap will get stuck under the hiding place
