if its broken at the root then their is a strong chance it wont grow back
it all depends on how much it bothers you
if it doesnt bother you leave it
if it does bother you then you need to take the fish out and stab the root with a pin to draw blood i have done this a few times and it works well
dont ask me what to us to knock the aro out as i have always left that part to the owner and have never done it on my own fish

Yep I agree. Did it with my jar when it broke its right barbel to the root but when it grew back it wasn't as long as the original barbel. Still it grew and I'm happy with the result. Only a few mm and it would have even the barbels.

Yep poking it with a needle till it draw out blood will stimulate the cell on healing that wounded area and if your lucky it will grow a barbel. That's why you need clean water and give it a high protein foods. Also it's best to keep the aro in dark room so the barbel will grow longer.
