So I just got this tank at my LFS for free, and I sealed up most of it the problem is there’s a hole on the 1 side I’ll add pics of it. I have an Idea which Is getting a thick background to cover it up and face it a certain way. Because a lot I’d shattered I need to clean it out in 2 days. I wanna do a newt with a terrarium because it’s only 10g.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

No way that's worth your time or effort. Too much risk of a cut, or of having a flood which will seriously set back your aquarium aspirations if your parents are anything like mine were way back when. I understand the almost hypnotic appeal of the word "free"; but neither silicone nor time is free, and you will waste too much of both on this project with no guarantee of success. I also understand the desire to make or fix something yourself; but again, you've got to weigh the positives and negatives of the whole idea, and there just aren't many positives here. If that tank had any potential, the shop (or one of the employees) would be using it themselves rather than giving it away.

Would make a decent terrarium, my brother snatches cracked tanks, crudely fixes them with silicone and keeps ants in them. Works a charm.

I love all the suggestions, my only problem is money’s tight and honestly I can’t afford another tank. I’m gonna use my grandmas soil and she has peat moss for the tank because I wanna do a terrarium and possibly in a few months get a pac man frog. I have a gold ribbon plant and I’ll get some other kinds of moss too. It came with a really nice screen for the top and the sides are all sealed. I put a background on the inside of the tank to cover the hole and cracks. I’ll send pics in a few minutes.

I’d personally break it down and keep
The glass could always come of use later For other projects or repairs
It’s fairly simple to cut glass Of course with proper safety equipment on
I’ve had a few tanks break on me and I just use the glass for lids and whatnot, mixing them together from various tanks from over the years to create a Frankenstein lid.

Wanna see one of my set ups? It’s rather interesting
