Just posting a little update of my bass in the 550g. I’ve once again gone through another round of thinning out any growouts and bass I was not fully dedicated to. The final four will be my long term projects but I’ve also left a bit of room for an intermedia pair, (if the moon and stars align one day) a mirianae pair, or another few high quality ocellaris if I find any.

Currently my bass stocklist is:
1x Sp. Brokopondo 12”
1x Sp. Brokopondo 11”
2x Pinima 9.5”

My big Brokopondo is truly my pride and joy with his insane blotching pattern. If I’ve ever had a bromance with a fish, me and him have it. Hopefully one day I’ll get a few fry out of it. He and the other Brokopondo have grown about 6” since receiving them at the end of December and are truly some messy gluttons. My two Pinima are showinge exceptional growth. I got them around the end of February around 6” and was able to convert them from live to pellets in under two weeks. Unfortunately I was never able to help them fully repair their dorsal fins.

In turn with trying to produce the healthiest, most vibrant bass I can, they get fed 6 days a week with a mix of high quality pellets and shrimp, with a snack of pellets in the morning. My filter turns over the tank 9x an hour, and I give them a water change ever 5-7days with nitrates never exceeding 10ppm. Bass are definitely the fish that have always stuck with me. I’m super excited to keep learning about everything they have to offer and attempt to help them thrive to the best of my abilities!

sorry for the dirty water, feeding times can get pretty messy and my background keeps getting knocked over by my catfish haha. Cheers! 0688F78D-6A87-422E-8211-498D88CF7368.jpeg

Almost two months later, heres another update of the gang. Added my old Broko back in with the group and hopefully soon I'll have a few of my growouts mixed in with them as well.

It's definitely become bulking season for the two biggest ocells and Monster has been packing on some serious bulk while slowing down in the length department. Monster has also become the tank tyrant, while holding control since he was smaller he's definitely come to command everything that goes on within the tank now. Both of the bigger brokos are around 13" with the smaller new addition around 10.5". The Pinima have actually been catching up more and more each day in length, with both of them probably past 11" now but not really bulking at all yet.

The smallest broko with all the spangling has become a second puppy to me and greets me every time I come in the room and will even swim into my hand. I know he's just begging for food but he's still a really personable fish.

What the hell happened to the pinima?
They came in like that, not sure if it was ammonia burns or just aggression between them. All the clean water and melafix in the world couldnt fix it

Mini update since I’ve been so busy setting up Tooth & Scale Aquatics. They’re definitely getting fat and keep destroying their 3D background an hour after I fix it!
