haven't seen one in a pet store in forever... probably bc they don't sell bc the black ones look better...

but they are still around. the lab at the Uni does study on knife fish and they have a ton of brown ghost and they get a ton each year. and I *believe* the Dr. running the lab said he has been able to breed them (cuts cost)... btu i cant be 100% on that... he said he bred one of the species, and i think it was that one.

The Black Ghost is by far the most outgoing of the two.
Brown Ghosts tend to remain shy where Black Ghosts can become tame enough to take live earthworms(one of their favorite foods) from your fingers.

Both do best when kept with only one per tank. In a very large tank more than one may work. That is something I have yet to try. Of the two I suspect Brown Ghosts may be the easier of the two to keep in groups but that is just my hunch.
It would be nice to know more about how they breed. I know Black Ghosts are being bred in SE Asian fish hatcheries but they breed many species by using artificial techniques like hormone injection, egg and milt stripping. I haven't come across any accounts as to how they are producing their Black Ghosts.

Both are among the most interesting of the "commonly kept" tropical fish.

brown is agressive, black isn't. wich one suitsd your tank?

yes, one per tank when they get a certain size. lab here separates them at around 5-6 inches I do believe because they are intolerant of each other

cichlids are unpredictable, at first they seem harmless but as time goes by they may become aggresive and territorial especially on breeding season. Go for the oddball fishes.
