IME brycon are easier to keep than dorado because of size and less aggression. There are some species that cohab very easily in a community and some that are a little bit trickier. They're territorial, especially towards silvery fish but they often school and mine shoal with my bbsd

I agree...while you have some species that are more aggressive brycons are omnivores, with some species eat fruits and nuts only, Dorado are predators. Brycon Hilarii eat mostly fruits and nuts and school well together and they get quite big. I learned with brycon usually a cohab is possible if you have a predator in the tank thats more aggressive than them and you have plenty of swimming space.

Most common in the fish trade is probably brycon dentex, but there is also a black tail species that is referred to as the common brycon, which isn't that common in the hobby.

Theres more than one red tail brycon but I already stated the one you're probably referring to. Brycon Dentex

For one brycon at a foot a 6ft 125g should be ok.

Ok I am giving you a heads up warning about Brycon Dentex. I had one of these few years back and this species is very aggressive toward tank mates that dont fight back. My Brycon swam around all day and night trying to punk any fish that wasn't fighting back. If a fish would finally get fed up and push the brycon away, the brycon would run and hide but 30 seconds later it was back swimming and stressing out its tank mates.
Man I wanted to slingshot that fish into the street but couldnt see myself doing it. Fortunately for me the brycon picked on the wrong fish and my Temenesis pbass destroyed it and put it out of its misery!
Please stay away from buying any Brycon or you will be sorry. I wished someone was there to warn me before i added a brycon to my fish collection.

Sound advice as I had a 6" brycon take out a 8" armatus
