Learning some new things as everyone posts hope everyone else is thanks guys for the posts

I find local forums to see what's for sale!
And always just rinse and wash the filter sponge or floss! LOL! Yes.. i'm very cheap as well!
And as for saving money... get married.... have a child... that'll stop u from buying anymroe tanks or fish =) LOL

Ok the search function is not working for me at the moment. But i made a post a few months back about some dechlorinating crystals that I found on ebay that a local LFS owner told me about. And you can mix your own dechlorinator. You get 2lb of crystals for 10-15 bucks and thats enough to dechlorinate 60,000 gallons. If I remeber correctly. I have been using this stuff for since then with no problems. ------------When the search is back up I will repost the link. Or look on ebay for it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Pond-Dechlorina...temQQptZOutdoor_Decor?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

I have HOB filters mostly. So instead of buying the new filter packets and all(floss ones), I buy the big bag of filter floss. Then after a good 6 month I take the frame out of the old dirty ones and sew a new one on. Looks pretty ugly but who cares, It does the job.

Lets see what else, buy the pool filter sand or better yet have a bare tank for the monsters, lol. Use shop lights instead of individual hood lights. Find your own driftwood or rocks(clean extremely well). Being 19 and in college you have to be cheap to live MFK.:nilly:

if you feed live feeders catch your own. And if you feed pellets use dry dog food. Puppy formula for smaller fish and regular for larger ones. you can get 20lbs for 5-10bucks.

i dont use any chemicals other than anti-chlorine and salt.
no meds or buffers whatsoever.
no heater because of where i live.
the temp.s always 31 degrees celcius in my tanks.
i always buy used tanks.

Awww yes wal mart shop light 10 bucks LOL the best thing ever for lighting haha

For cheap fish, tanks, and equipment I use Craigslist, buy/sell fish forums, local fish swaps/auctions and garage sales.
I often find leaker tanks and reseal them.
Check out DIY section for more economical solutions.
I'm a big fan of pool filter sand!
For food, chemicals, and meds I buy in bulk and usually find the best prices online.
I rarely replace floss sleeves on HOB filters, just give them a good rinse.
I heat my fishroom instead of a heater on every tank.

That is all I can think of for now...

Hmm, lets see...
Free tanks is a must.
Morton's pickling salt $1.26/4lbs. at walmart.
Ebay for Hob's, canisters, and other filtration method's.
Lowe's shop light's.
DIY stand's, canopy's etc.
Buy PRIME in bulk.
Polyester quilt batting for filter floss. It's like $2 and does a heck of a job polishing.
Pot scrubbies instead of bioballs or ceramic media.
Find out if you can get your petsmart to price match foster's and smith.
Breed your own feeders!
DIY python (garden hose and waterbed drain kit) $10.00 with 100' hose:headbang2

Not really sure about the dog food substitute for pellets, as I am not sure of the nutrient values vs. Hikari etc.

I think that's about as far as I've gotten so far...
