i used to have thread worms in a tank a while ago and i had a geophagus jurapri that ate em all the time.I would get some of them or loaches maybe would work as well

Lupin? thx :) ill send a message right after this one.

ya, i did start a thread about this a while back. it was when i saw the first one, back when i had polys. here's a link to the page. glad you mentioned that cause it contains pics of dragon fly larvae and damslefly larvae. i knew i had seen pics of them before on here.

i think since i dont want to use any chemicals im going to have to ditch the idea of using this as a shrimp breeding tank. the reason for this is because i dont know how i can get the bugs out of the filter and im not about to undo all my hard work of getting that filter as mature as i have just to rid myself of some insects... when they arent hurting my other fish. now if they were destroying my community tank that would be another thing. that filter would be out and sanitized in a heartbeat.

so what do i do? im pretty sure i know the answer... just switch it all over to the 20G anyway and only keep fish that wolnt get hurt by them, and perhaps get a fish that eats them. what do you guys think? am i going in the wrong direction? is there some angle i dont see?

They're damselfly nymphs indeed. They're not however as harmful as the dragonfly nymphs but may still damage fry. Many fish will eat them whereas dragonfly nymphs can damage larger fish and attack smaller specimens.

thanks for the ID :) advice on what to do? should i just follow through with moving the plants with the bugs when i upgrade the community? as far as breeding shrimp goes, will i pretty much just have to plan on starting a new tank or using one of my planted betta tanks? - and remove the betta to a new tank of course lol.

It's up to you whether you want to remove the nymphs or not. I'd simply ditch them to the pond. The shrimp larva might be in danger though of being eaten considering their size.

you don't have to worry about the bugs laying eggs in your tank, nymphs can't lay eggs they have to be an adult to lay eggs

see thats what i thought too, but this is the third one iv seen in 3 months. i doubt their larvae stage lasts that long. which mean either they are not damselflys, or there are damsleflys in my house from time to time, or they do in fact live that long and have been alive since they came in on a piece of bogwood or something. that might solve my problem. whats the life expectancy of a damslefly larvae? does anyone know? cause winter is here now and there shouldnt be any more adults for a while to lay eggs. so if i can just keep new ones from being laid then all i have to do is sit back through the winter and wait for these larvae to die off. then my tank will be clean again. thoughts and input?

get a clown loach
