I disagree. Using a fish purely to eradicate inverts, etc is not something to consider. Manual removing should suffice enough.

see thats what i thought too, but this is the third one iv seen in 3 months. i doubt their larvae stage lasts that long. which mean either they are not damselflys, or there are damsleflys in my house from time to time, or they do in fact live that long and have been alive since they came in on a piece of bogwood or something. that might solve my problem. whats the life expectancy of a damslefly larvae? does anyone know? cause winter is here now and there shouldnt be any more adults for a while to lay eggs. so if i can just keep new ones from being laid then all i have to do is sit back through the winter and wait for these larvae to die off. then my tank will be clean again. thoughts and input?

They are definitely damselfly nymphs, there is no doubt on that score. The nymph stage of damsels and many other aquatic insects lasts longer than you might think; it usually lasts much longer than the adult stage. However, the pictures you showed indicate that the naiads are close to metamorphosis- you can tell by the development of the wing pads. So if you're willing to wait until they transform and remove the adults as they emerge, your tank will be damselfly free.

Thanks for posting this. I have the exact same insect in my planted 10g cherry shrimp tank and I was wondering what it was. I have about 100 cherry shrimp in there, and so far they seem to be reproducing fine.
I'm eventually going to set up a nice 29g planted and I think what I'll do is use the boiling water trick on any plants I transfer over from the 10g and use the media from another tank.
I'm starting to see some snails in this tank too. It's actually kind of fun to just watch what is going on in there. As long as I don't lose all my cherry shrimp over night, I'm think I'm just going to sit back and see how it all plays out.
