i have a wall in my home office that that is just right for a 6x2x2 tank which i think will = 180gal. i would love to build this my self after reading through the amazing builds in the forum. i want to set it up for CA/SA . if i do build i prob will with a plywood tank? my ? is would it be cheaper to build or buy? if price is not to much of a difference i prob will build just for the glory!!!

My opinion is if you have the skills...then why not? Gives you even more to be proud of once it is all done. I'm working on a 4'x2'x2' right now for the same type of set up. All the best of luck!

I personally would buy. With this 180g size, you can easily find used ones for a much less that what you will have in just materials, not to mention the time.

But if you get the enjoyment out of building, I say go for it. Nothing says accomplishment like DIY!!!

if you have the needed skill set and you have no reservations, go for it! i find myself spending so much time in my home office, that i've decided to get a tank for mine, but i don't have the skills, so i'm buying. good luck!

Without a window my 180 cost me 80$ to build. 6 2x6's, 2 sheets plywood and pond liner. When I built my 270 I bought 2 4x2x 3/4" acrylic sheets for $115 shipped. I bet you can build a nice 180, stand canopy and all for $300 or under.
