Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:( that is low, but that won't hurt anything. jeez, i bet that thing will evap 20 or 30 gallons a day. it might be worth it to have a continuous trickle fillin er up and have a wastewater overflow in the sump, that could take care of you water changers too :)
do you need to condition your tap water?

love the Brute!

Evap shouldn't be that bad as I will have it covered over 90% of the open areas as soon as I pick up my clear covers this week.

Now I have to decided if I am going to make the sump taller I had better do it now cause the pond armor take 12 hours to solidify and even more to cure. Not something I want to do with fish in place.

DryLok the upper portion of the sump? Thoughts?

I was thinking 12-18" at the most. 12" taller would give me an additional 90+ gallons in the sump to work with and raise the working water level to 18" in the sump vs the 8" I have now and give me a little extra room to breathe in case of a power outage.

Here's a cross-section of the new raised wall.

The bottom wall is the existing.

The top is the extension; 12" - 18".

The overlapping part is attached to the extension.

Build the extension exactly the same dimension of the existing sump wall.

Build the 6" overlap all the way around inside the extension. Use Carpenter's wood glue to secure it to the extension.

Pond armor the inside of the extension and overlap anywhere that it contacts the existing sump.

Put a bead of silicone around the top rim of the existing sump

Insert the extension into the existing sump. Where they meet, the silicone will seal it. You can run a bead of silicone under the bottom edge of overlap as well.

Just an idea.

Wow congrats vldesign. IF your gonna heighten the sump do it now. Congrats on such a sweet setup and sump. You really kicked ass and took names a lot of work went in to this bad boy.

Ok going to attack the sump right away...

Here are the before and after plans... As usual input is always welcome.

Since I am making an addition to the sump I figured why not get rid of the garbage can while I am at it. I will simply make room in the sump for ALL the scrubbies and be done with the garbage can filter.
