Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

if you cant fix it, caulk it :D, i always make sure i do a quality caulk on bulkheads after they are in, figure, worst comes to worst i can always cut it away
 
Use silicone grease between the gasket and the bulkhead, on the tank wall, and on the bulkhead threads. Tightness isn't what seals it. If you tighten it too much, you'll torque the gasket and it'll leak more. The silicone grease allows it to slide on the gasket while tightening, so that doesn't happen. The bulkhead should be firmly seated on the gasket, but not enough to indent it.

That should explain away your concerns. And besides that, the fish never come in contact with it if applied properly.
