some guys recommend me to have a 5ft sump,, thats pretty huge to me, can i just get a eheim professional that can support 600g? by external heater you mean something that attaches to the canister filter and heats it that way b4 being pump back into the tank?

http://www.eheim.com/pro2.htm

the one with the built in heater?

This is for a 600 liter tank, not gallons.

You'd need several of those if you wanted to use it on a 600g tank.

6 ft ......4-5 aro's..
that nice..
there are big splashy..
can't wait ur project....

i am building a contrete 6x4x3 tank with 1 side glass viewing in my garage. Know any companies that do this sort of thing? located in ontario, canada. so i will be getting some very nice asian aros for it. thinking a super red, some RTG. Which are more aggressive and which should i try? will a 9 RTG be good? how many watts for heater? type of filter? btw it will be -30 degree celceius outside in winter.

I don't quite see the extreme temps you see. I do know that to heat an aquarium in my garage in the winter is near impossible, unless provisions are made. You would pobably need to insulate and heat your garage, and insultale the tank(much like a hot tub). I would look into finding an some solid proffesional info on heating this tank befor starting this project.

Last January I had a filled 120 gallon tank sitting in my garage for a leak test. I had 750 watts of heaters in the tank and ice was still forming on the water's surface.

Yes a part of the garrage is gonna be made into a little fish room for the tank with a door. so the dry walls is gonna get insulated by those pink stuffings you see around houses walls.

That will definetly help is the room is small and well insulated it may be easier to heat the entire room to 80 degrees, instead of heating the water.

A lrge sump would be your best bet for filtration, but you could also go with some convention canister filters. I have a 350g 6' x 4' x 2' that i will be setting up. My plans for filtration are a wet/dry sump along with a fluval fx5 to help with mechanical filtration.

If you wanted ONLY cannisters, you'd need 4-5 big ones to support the tank. Not to mention powerheads etc. Go with a 4ft sump. Oh, try and make the tank as LONG as possible. Every inch longer will help your arowanas in the long run.

yeah i can't go any bigger than 6ft in length, i am gonna keep 4 instead of 5-6, 4 is way enough and i don't believe in that fang shei crap. 4 may sound BAD in chinese terms but it doesn't bother me.
